About Us

Overstory Farm is rooted in regenerative agriculture, stewarding the wild ecosystems that surround it while cultivating food that reflects both the land and the local community. As a first-generation, woman-owned, nature-powered farm, Overstory works in harmony with the forest, growing crops in and among the trees in Chittenden, VT.

The farm specializes in outdoor, log-grown mushrooms, fiddlehead ferns, and perennial fruits and vegetables. Practices include no-till methods for the establishment of long-lived perennial crops, and growing food under the forest’s natural cool, shaded microclimate.

In partnership with conservation specialists, Overstory Farm also implements long-term strategies to enhance air, water, and soil quality. These efforts support biodiversity, creating thriving habitats for wildlife across both the forest and the open fields of the farm’s 14 acres.

Practices
Cultivating mushrooms entirely outside, we are committed to climate-forward practices in farming. Our intention behind agroforestry farming values trees and the land with a resource-efficient model that uses nature’s shade to grow in the natural (wild) environment yielding flavorful and nutritious mushrooms.

Sustainability is part of a wholistic process for all decisions on our farm. We grow with certified organic mushroom spawn, establish perennials with no-till methods to support long-term soil health, choose compostable, recycled and low-waste packaging, use on-site composting, and re-purpose materials like grass clippings and wood chips used as mulch. In 2024 we extended our established homestead solar to our vehicle and all deliveries are now solar powered, via electric vehicle. We believe all of these small practices add up to create a better environment for our future.
